Matteo Giglio on Bonatti footsteps

The mountain guide celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the first ascent of the Bonatti-Vaucher

In August 1964, Walter Bonatti and Micheal Vaucher were the first two to open a way on Whymper’s spur, on the north face of the Grandes Jorasses. This super tough way was graded Extremely Difficult (ED) and then it was increased to ED + after the first repetition, over 12 years later.

On September 13th 2014, Matteo with his friend and colleauge Arnaud Clavel reach the summit after 13 hours during a wonderful sunny day: coordination, good materials and alternate leads.

SCARPA was honoured to be “at the foot” of Matteo in this memorable accomplishment full of charm and history.
