HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIMO BOOTS

Once you have chosen your ski mountaineering boots, you need to keep in mind some simple tricks that help maintain the product’s features over time, increasing its life span and ensuring its proper functioning. Mainly, the considerations to make can be split into two macro categories, namely during and after use. The ones to consider during concern the correct use of the boots, while those for “after” concern taking care of them.

HOW DO YOU USE SKIMO BOOTS?

The correct use of the boots is critical for both safety and maintenance over time. Firstly, the binding of the skis must be properly adjusted to the length of the boots. Then you must pair the boots with a suitable, dry pair of socks in technical material to get the best possible performance from the liner. Before binding your skis, you need to check that the boots are clean, especially in the area where they fit into the binding. Once the skis have been engaged, the last step is to check that all levers and the Ski-Walk system are in the correct position.

CAN YOU WALK WITH SKI MOUNTAINEERING BOOTS?

Thanks to the Vibram soles and the great range of movement of the ankle, you can walk wearing the boots. As they have been designed for use in an alpine environment, we do not recommended embarking on long marches over high-grip terrain, such as asphalt or concrete, in order to prevent abnormal wear. Given the rigidity of the shell, you must pay particular attention on steep and slippery surfaces. The boots should be comfortable and warm, so we recommended that you do not use the boots if you feel numb, extremely cold, or have uncomfortable pressure points.

HOW DO YOU CLEAN SKI MOUNTAINEERING BOOTS?

To best clean your ski mountaineering boots, all it takes is a few simple steps, which are different for the liner and the plastic shell. Once cleaned and dried separately, they need to be reassembled and stored in a place away from light and heat sources, with the levers properly fastened.

HOW DO YOU CLEAN THE SHELL OF SKIMO BOOTS?

Once you’ve removed the liner, all it takes is a few simple steps to clean the shell, thereby increasing its life span and leaving its characteristics unchanged. First, remove any build-up on the exterior (mud, snow, etc.) that tends to irreversibly damage the plastics. A soft plastic brush can be used to avoid any accidental damage. Once the shell of the boots has been brushed, you can move on to cleaning it with a gentle detergent. It’s important not to use particularly corrosive detergents or solvents to avoid damaging the plastic materials. Once cleaned and then rinsed, the shell should be left to dry away from sources of heat, with the levers fastened and the Ski-Walk in the downhill position.

HOW DO YOU CLEAN THE BOOT LINER?

Cleaning the liner is similar to cleaning the shell, although they should be cleaned separately. As with trekking boots, you remove the liner and then clean it with neutral soap. Once cleaned and rinsed, it should be placed away from sources of heat to dry, separately from the shell.

HOW SHOULD SKI MOUNTAINEERING BOOTS BE STORED?

After the shell and liner have been washed and dried, you should reassemble the boots, place them in the downhill position and fasten each of the levers. The boots should then be stored in a cool, dry environment, away from sources of light and heat. Care should then be taken when moving them: you should not leave the boots in a particularly hot environment, such as in the boot of a car parked in the sun.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOUR SKIMO BOOTS BREAK?

In the event of damage to your skimo boots, we recommend that you stop using them immediately. Trying to fix your boots without contacting a specialised centre or official dealer is strongly discouraged. Improperly repaired boots can expose the user to even serious injury.
